Microsoft owes me $4,368

Category: Technology, Business Life — Dave Conklin @ 12:53 pm

OK… So, yet again I sit here completely frustrated because some code that I have implemented on a site doesn’t work with Internet Explorer.  For those of you who don’t know, Internet Explorer is the program that you use to browse the internet.  Microsoft has it automatically installed on every computer that has windows.  And, well… to be blunt… it is hated by about 95% of all tech people.

There are 6 people (including myself) that deal with web development in different ways at work.  I am going to estimate that I deal with an IE problem at least once a week.  Once I find one, it usually takes about an hour to fix.  Sometimes it takes much longer.

Anyway, if my tech team deals with the same problem, that’s 6 hours per week that we’re dealing with crap that Microsoft has blessed us with.

OK, so 6 hours times 52 weeks = 312 hours of wasted time.  Let’s say the average tech person makes $14 per hour.

Microsoft, please send a check, payable to Dave Conklin in the amount of $4,368.  I’ll send a bill for next year.

I have been diagnosed with S.E.R.T.

Category: Funny, Business Life — Dave Conklin @ 10:07 pm

diagnose.jpgThis evening I received disturbing news that I may have S.E.R.T. (Selective Email Response Time) from my business partner, Rory.

The email read as follows:

It appears that you have S.E.R.T.
To correct this common problem please respond to emails in the order they were received in a timely manner and try to avoid skipping to a preferred email position due to your being uncomfortable in responding to a particular email due to lack of knowledge or not knowing if it may become confrontational. We at the Email Response Team hopes that this has been helpful in curing your apparent S.E.R.T. problem.

Have a wonderful day.

Best Regards,

Rory Wilfong

I couldn’t stop laughing. Rory - thanks for the diagnosis. I am no longer in denial and am well on my way to recovery.

Trip to the beach

Category: Travel, Photography, Business Life — Dave Conklin @ 12:12 am

Rory, Steve and I went down to North Wildwood to take care of some things with a condo the other day. You can find out more about the condo here.

I took my first panaramic picture while we were there. It didn’t turn out incredible, but it’s my first, so I’ll share… Click here if you would like to see it. Keep in mind that it’s a pretty big file and you’ll have to scroll across to see the whole thing.  If you can see the whole thing on your screen, click it again and it will zoom to full size.
I got some other pictures as well…

Rory and I thought that maybe we could roast some marshmallows on the gas stove. Steve came out a moment later and told us it would cost too much to do that. 8 )

I don’t think that I have been on the beach more than 2-3 times as an adult… Rory gave me some tips.

Hello!!! I spent this evening getting the pictures edited from Web Xtreme’s 2006 Christmas Party. I thought it was about time since it’s… oh… a month later. We had a lot of fun at Media Heights Golf Club. Mixed Impression’s DJs and Entertainment was there. Our DJ is a personal friend of Rory, Steve and me - and he was great!

You can take a look at some of the pictures here.

Also, if you haven’t… make sure you see the pictures in the photo album.

Endure…

Category: Business Life, Business — Dave Conklin @ 8:10 am

In taking a look at Wiebner’s blog yesterday I learned that a guy I went to school with found out in July that he had cancer. With that news, he decided to start a t-shirt business called Endure. The shirts are all themed around enduring things in life and you can check them out here. When I read his story it almost made me laugh out loud (in joy)! I see people every day when they face adversity in their lives burry their head in the sand. It is so refreshing to learn that drive, motivation and dedication to life have not been flushed down the toilet by society.

Chad, your story is one that is both remarkable and exciting! I will order a shirt soon.

Please take a moment to read Chad’s story in the Lancaster Paper here.

Photo Album Update

Category: Photography, Business Life — Dave Conklin @ 8:03 pm

paintball.jpgAt Web Xtreme, we take the team out to play paintball once in a while. We have recently hired a photography team to take pictures at events.  If you have never played paintball - do it.  It’s great exercise and gives you a chance to legally shoot people.

I have updated my photo album with some pictures of the last Web Xtreme paintball extravaganza that we had. You can check them out by clicking here.
